About me

Sette Portrait Hauser 2023.JPG
Daniele Sette - Passion for ski racing

I was born on February 28, 1992 in Samedan in the Engadine and have lived in St. Moritz ever since, where I grew up and went to primary school. I completed my high school diploma at the sports high school in Davos in 2012. After that, I devoted myself 100% to ski racing, especially the giant slalom discipline.

I made my World Cup debut in Adelboden in 2014. This was after many tough years in lower squads. Adelboden is also the place where I was able to get my first World Cup points. In 2020, after a good first run with starting number 51, I finished in 19th place.

In Bansko I achieved my best World Cup result so far with 11th place. Thanks to the fastest time in the second run, I moved up from 23rd to 11th place.

I finished the 2020/21 and 2021/22 seasons in 31st and 32nd place in the giant slalom world rankings (WCSL), narrowly missing out on the Swiss-Ski A-squad (status) twice. I finished the somewhat difficult 2022/2023 season in 40th place in the WCSL and was therefore no longer selected for any Swiss-Ski squad. In spring 2023, I rejoined the Global Racing Team and brought a service man with me to the private team. I also switched to the ski brand manufacturer Nordica. In summer 2023, I unfortunately suffered a torn Achilles tendon. In the 2023/24 season, I only competed in one European Cup and one World Cup race. I have big plans again for the coming 2024/25 season. I'm confident I'll keep fighting and am looking forward to my chances.

Goals

The next big goal I have set for myself is to establish myself in the top 30 in the Giant Slalom World Cup.

In the longer term, I set myself the goal of competing in the 2026 Olympic Games in Cortina/Milano.

setbacks

Unfortunately, during my time as a ski racer I also had to accept some setbacks which set me back about 3 years.

In the fall of 2014, I suffered a serious knee injury that kept me out of action for the entire season. I was able to make my comeback in the spring of 2015.

In the summer of 2015, I tore my syndesmosis ligament during fitness training and missed the whole summer. I was able to make my comeback in the autumn of 2015. However, the pain continued into the winter.

In spring 2016, I narrowly missed being selected for the Swiss Ski squad. Giving up was still not an option.

In December 2016, I was stopped by a serious nerve injury to my left arm. The edge of my ski severed my ulnar nerve. In February 2017, just in time for the home World Championships in St. Moritz, I was able to make my comeback. Unfortunately, I was only in the lead, but shortly afterwards I was back on the podium at regular FIS races. This injury was a huge mental challenge, which ultimately made me stronger.

In February 2019, I suffered a bone bruise. However, I finished the season in pain and qualified for the Swiss Ski B squad. The first time after 12 years without being part of the squad.

In April 2023, I was informed that I had been dropped from the Swiss Ski squad. So I rejoined the Global Racing Team. In this private team, I am accompanied by 2-3 coaches, a ski service man and a physiotherapist.

In the summer of 2023, I tore my Achilles tendon during fitness training. One of the biggest personal challenges was ahead of me & I was only able to compete in a limited number of races in the 23/24 season.
